Up until 2010, the Erasmus University campus was little more than a collection of buildings, entrances and parking spaces that had little or nothing to do with one another. In order to accommodate for future growth and also give the campus gets a new heart, the site will be transformed into car-free and leafy-green environment. This is done by introducing two new central entrance axes, which divide the campus into a high-density urban are and an open, green parkland. All parking is positioned beneath the new Plaza, which becomes the heart of the campus, containing a string of restaurants, bicycle parking, shops as well as the new student pavilion. location: Rotterdam, The Netherlands design period: 2008-2014 implementation: 2009-2035 area: 28ha program: 250.000 m2BVO buildings t.b.v. education, research, housing and 3300 underground parking places Masterplan by: Juurlink [+] Geluk, jvantspijker architects and Sputnik Public space by: Juurlink [+] Geluk Parking garage by: jvantspijker architecten and sputnik in cooperation with Juurlink [+] Geluk Team: Huub Juurlink, Cor Geluk, Jaakko van ‘t Spijker, Bert Karel Deuten, Henk Bultstra, John de Groot, Joost de Wit.
