In the 60’s of the last century, an incredible number of residential areas were practically ’Xeroxed’ out of the ground. In almost no time at all, the landscape filled up with gallery flats: limited volume housing that looked exactly like all the other limited volume housing. literally in many gallery flats. Our design for Maassluis is a step in the opposite direction. A new block adjacent to a renovated park contains 200 houses. These are divided around three courtyards that, in turn, connect to the park. The resulting homes, complete with porches and small galleries, are diverse in character. Parking is arranged underground, beneath the buildings and daylight for the parking area comes by way of openings cut into the courtyards.
