Coolhaven is a harbour in the center of Rotterdam, being an accessible but isolated site along the water of the river Schie it currently is dominated by infrastructure and by the large buildings of the Rotterdam University. The design reinvents the quality of the water and creates a integral waterfront that is accessible and activated. The introduction of a rigid grid filled in with small scale blocks brings a new logic to the site. The small blocks are suitable for the diverse program (education, medical facilities, offices, dwellings); the buildings become flexible in terms of use and in terms of phasing.
