The construction of the high speed TGV rail link between Paris and Amsterdam and the new lowered profile of the A16 motorway were the catalysts for this design assignment in Breda-Prinsenbeek. The earlier mentioned conditions provided an opportunity to create a park over the rail and motorway. The design is framed around the contrast between the hard concrete and steel of the underground transport infrastructure and the gentle, romantic dorpsbos (village green) sitting on top of it. These conditions made it possible to create a unique park with a dramatic landscape of flowing hills, a network of walking and running paths, ponds as well as thickly wooded areas full of pine, oak and birch trees. location: Breda, The Netherlands design period: 2003 - 2007 implementation: 2006 - 2008 area: 13 ha designed by: Juurlink [+] Geluk (Cor Geluk, Huub Juurlink, Marcel vd Meys, Kristien Vanmerhaeghe) in cooperation with: Plan 3 (civil + construction engineers), BSI (tree consult) commissioned by: City of Breda photography: Jeroen Musch, Chidi Onwuka, Juurlink [+] Geluk
