Close to the Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is a sprawling district filled with the single-family homes typical to this region. Large plots, high walls (for privacy), oversized traffic patterns and hard-to-find roads are all characteristics of this area. We began by applying a clear and logical hierarchical structure to the public space, residential streets and large avenues. Within this structure, neighbourhood mosques, shops and local government offices are given natural position. Finally, the transformation of the anonymous housing into a patio-based typology with guesthouses for visitors —as is the custom— greater privacy for women and children space and a vastly improved interior climate.
