The village of Borculo has built a new residential area on the opposite banks of the Old Berkel. The municipality of Borculo commissioned a new bridge in order to connect the new neighbourhood with the old village. The bridge not only unites the old and the new but also reflects their characteristics. On the side of the old village the bridge is given a heavy, solid base, while on the newly developed bank there is a floating deck. This deck lands far beyond the waterline allowing for a continuous ecological link along the riverbank. On the bridge itself, a seating element is positioned on a transparent grille so one literally sits while floating above the stream! location: Borculo, The Netherlands design period: 2004 implementation: 2004 designed by: Juurlink[+]Geluk (Huub Juurlink, Cor Geluk, Christina Olsen, Marcel van der Meys) in cooperation with: Reef Infra B.V. commissioned by: City of Borculo
